The Lilongwe bowl is a beautifully handcrafted African Blackwood bowl. Blackwood is one of the most sought after wood species in the world and it's exclusive history dates back to the Egyptians. Known for it's heat resistance, pest resistance and moisture resistance- it is one of the most rare wood species on earth.

Known as the wave bowl, because they are meticulously formed using the natural grain and features of the wood to provide a unique and individual piece. No two pieces are the same. This particular bowl is made out of the storied African Acacia tree and comes from Eastern Africa, from a small country known as Malawi.

Malawi is part of the great rift valley and its flora and fauna are unique and some of which are not found anywhere else in the world. This beautiful bowl can be used to decorate ones home and will provide a distinguishing look to any living area.

In partnership with Root to Fruit, we are pledging to plant 5 fruit trees in the country of Malawi when this bowl is sold. The client can choose the tree species, will receive a certificate from the non-profit organization, and will also have a GPS location of where their trees have been planted in Africa.

12" long x 8" wide x 6" deep; approximately 5 lbs

So EXOTIC!

Bought one of these BLACKWOOD bowls a few years ago from Contour Functional Art. Had wanted to do a review on it, but for whatever reason never did. It is a wonderful and exotic use of African Blackwood. It is the centerpiece of my exotic wood collection. Pricey... Yes. But it has become a conversation piece in my home. If you like VERY exotic wood, that is responsibly harvested, I would highly recommend it.
