This is a scaled down prototype we've worked on of an African Blackwood vase. This size can be used as a one of a kind decorative piece on a mantle or in a display case. It's 5.5 inches tall and 3 inches wide. Aside from being displayed as a decorative piece, the full scale version could also be used as a functional vase. The full scale version of this vase will be approximately 10 inches tall and 4.5 inches wide, with a similar tapered profile and angled top. This handcrafted wooden vase is completely waterproof and carries a story that dates back thousands of years.
African Blackwood (Mpingo) is one of the most sought after wood species in the world. Only one cubic foot of this exotic material weighs 80 pounds. It is pest proof, water proof and fire proof. Known as "The Original Ebony", this wood was used by ancient Egyptians as utensils and instruments. It is the most coveted wood for instrument makers to this day.
The natural black color has not been painted or manipulated. This is a unique and individual piece. No two pieces are the same. This particular vase is made out of the mystical African Blackwood tree which came from Eastern Africa.
This beautiful vase can be given as an amazing housewarming gift or used to decorate ones home and will provide a distinguishing look to any living area.
