PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
This is a one of a kind handcrafted African Blackwood sculpture that we love. This sculpture was hand milled from a naturally fallen Blackwood tree in Malawi. We call this functional art piece "Rebirth" because of the sculpture's interesting resemblance to a child in the womb. Africa is the birthplace to all mankind, so the irony of this piece is very special to us.
This sculpture can be used as a one of a kind decorative piece on a mantle or in a display case. Blackwood carries a story that dates back thousands of years. African Blackwood (locally known as Mpingo) is one of the most sought after wood species in the world. Only one cubic foot of this exotic material weighs 80 pounds. It is pest proof, water proof and fire proof. Known as "The Original Ebony", this wood was used by ancient Egyptians as utensils and instruments. Furniture featuring Blackwood was found in the tomb of King Tut. It is the most coveted wood for instrument makers to this day.
The natural black color has not been painted or manipulated. Because this is a unique and individual piece, no two are the same. This beautiful sculpture can be given as an amazing housewarming gift or used to decorate ones home and it will provide a distinguishing look to any living area.
ART GOES GREEN:
In partnership with Root to Fruit, we are pledging to plant 5 fruit trees in the country of Malawi when this sculpture is sold. The client can choose the tree species, will receive a certificate from the non-profit organization, and will also have a GPS location of where their trees have been planted in Africa.
