DESCRIPTION:

"At Contour, we approach furniture as art. This majestic coffee table is called The Mulanje Table. It's our most popular mid-century modern coffee table, by far. Carving a new path for what mid-mod can be, we juxtapose beautiful organic shapes and geometric lines in our original designs- all inspired by East Africa. As a work of art and a unique conversation starter, this functional piece of art is absolutely one of a kind. Contour designs cannot be duplicated because each piece features a different cut from an exotic tree, only found on location in Malawi."

-Jamar Simien, Creative Director of Contour

Each exotic tree is sustainably sourced and goes through a careful drying and cleaning process, before moving on to the next phase of the project. Named after the town of Mulanje in Southern Malawi, this coffee table is guaranteed to stop your guests in their tracks. Designed by award-winning artist Jamar Simien, the character of this composition is conveyed with photos, but it's even more impressive in person.

Featuring Contour's signature recycled steel rebar legs, found and fabricated in Malawi, the design calls on historical elements of Mid Century Modern, but it fearlessly carves it's own path in the world of premium furniture design. All of the materials are indigenous to East Africa and have all been repurposed. The sketch for this design was made by Jamar Simien in Johannesburg, South Africa. Three days later after collaborating with our team in Malawi, we had a prototype for the design. After carefully refining every aspect of the idea, our dream became a reality.

ART GOES GREEN:

In partnership with Root to Fruit, we are pledging to plant 15 trees in the country of Malawi when this table is sold. The client can choose the tree species, will receive a certificate from the non-profit organization, and will also have a GPS location of where their trees have been planted in Africa.

MATERIALS:

Sustainably sourced African Mahogany on custom steel rebar legs. Epoxy resin mixed with black pigment powder to fill the natural cavities.

DIMENSIONS:

17.5" H x 65" L x 36" W x 2" T

Happy I made the purchase

I’m so glad we hired Jamar to design and build our new table. It was a joy to be able to support the work of such a talented artist. Getting to know him and feeling so connected to the process of making this piece has been a wonderful experience for me. Each time I look at my beautiful table I am reminded of my good fortune both in being able to live with a piece of such beauty as well as to be able to feel the connection to the wonderful human who designed it

Amazing conversation piece in my living room

I am so grateful to have found Jamar Simien and Contour! From my first contact with Jamar, I felt very comfortable and confident that I was very lucky to find an artist and craftsperson who was both extremely talented and passionate about his work. He helped guide me through the process of picking a piece of wood and designing just the right piece for the space
